Since Amazon launched its first Kindle back in 2007 the world has been enamoured with the concept of eBooks. Portable, affordable and totally tech savvy, they’ve transformed the way we read.

Now, book buffs enjoy access to millions of titles, at their fingertips. Amazon is undeniably the global leader when it comes to selling eBooks, and to celebrate the Kindle store’s fifth birthday it recently released a countdown of the top bestselling eBooks of all time. Here’s what made the list!

1. Fifty Shades of Grey by EL James

Forget mainstay print bestsellers such as the Bible. When it comes to contemporary eBook readers, best-sellers are sexy, seductive and utterly addictive. Fifty Shades took the world by storm, captivating teens, young adults, mothers and grandmas alike!

2. Fifty Shades Darker by EL James

Surprise, surprise. Second place was also snapped up by EL James with a racy runner up to her number one best-seller. With the story now revealed from Grey’s point of view, this instalment was impossible to resist.

3. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

Modern day book lovers adore a good mystery and Gillian Flynn delivered with the hugely popular novel, Gone Girl. The book was a downright page turner, and was eventually adapted into a silver screen movie that bought the bizarre marriage of Nick and Amy to life.

4. Fifty Shades Freed by EL James

Perhaps it’s the anonymity that eReaders offer but according to Amazon, Fifty Shades Freed is the fourth bestselling eBook of all time.

5. The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson

This book may have been the Swedish author’s debut novel however that didn’t stop it from becoming a global hit. The light-hearted comedy follows the story of Allan Karlsson who trades in his 100th birthday party for something a little more exciting…
