Companies get serious about business continuity
Date: 15/02/2008
More than half (60%) of UK companies are considering certification on the new British Standard for business continuity, according to a survey by Business Continuity Expo 2008.
"The standard will give companies clear guidelines on putting together a business continuity plan as well as a clear benchmark they can achieve," said Ian Houghton, continuity manager at Royal and Sun Alliance. The first certifications are expected by mid-2008.
According to BSI, drivers for the business continuity standard include security legislation, rising insurance premiums, investor focus on risk, and increased outsourcing.
“Companies are now taking business continuity seriously and investing in a framework to ensure they have structures in place so that if a crisis hits they are prepared for it," said Paul Lanham, global marketing manager for BSI Management Systems.
One business continuity threat is losing your documentation, and a Document Management System can seriously minimise this threat. Once you have a Document Management System in place, you can securely destroy the original documents if you wish, making them safe from loss, fire, flood and damage.
