Date: 19/06/2008
A famous publication company who claimed to have named the racing sport with their own magazine title back in the 1950’s, have recently used both a graphics design company and Pearl Scan Solutions have all of their magazines converted into electronic format.
With 50 years worth of monthly publications to archive there were a large amount of books, magazines and pages to convert. The graphics design company initially took on the project of making these magazines electronically available on DVD as a box set. The initial plan was to get the magazines scanned and converted by a reliable service provider then the graphic designers would carry out the editing and production to produce hundred’s of copies of the DVD box sets which would be sold at racing road shows.
Te graphic designers required a professional scanning service to do the initial time consuming scanning and converting, Pearl Scan Solutions Ltd eventually won the contract and started work on scanning the pages of every magazine which included around 10,000 pages in total. Pearl Scan were initially required to scan all magazines, convert them to PDF and edit, de-skew and crop the images as necessary to produce straight readable pages. These would be made text searchable, include the ability to zoom in and out on articles and have bookmarks for each section.
After months of production work at Pearl Scan Solutions the edited files were sent over to the graphic designers for final editing and production in which the menus and user interfaces were added, the magazines were written to printed DVD’s representing each decade. The box set was completed with the typical green publication branding which included separate fold out DVD boxes for each of the five decades.
The publication company will now sell these DVD’s to customers at their road shows and other major racing events. Some customers have been collecting this magazine for years so now they can simply have every copy available on DVD with no missing issues or piles of magazines to search through. It is also a great benefit to the racing publication who now have all of their issues backed up electronically in one easy to use set of disks.
